Ruth Roman (n e Gold) was born at Lynn located in Massachusetts. Her parents were Lithuanian Jewish immigrants Mary Pauline and Abraham Roman. After her father died in the role of a carnival barker when Ruth was just a little girl and she was forced to support the family working both as a cook and server. Ruth was a student at the school located in the tenement district of Boston's most deprived. She quit the school she attended just two years later to pursue acting as a profession. Her chosen path proved to be filled with challenges such as In New York, she obtained an opportunity to pose for stills in a magazine for crime however, theatrical opportunities eluded her. Then in NYC, she volunteered at a bar as a check-in girl before quitting before moving to Boston. She was in Boston where she worked during the night as an actor with New England Repertory Company and during the day as an usherette. In addition, she was a drama student and ultimately graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
